well it’s high time i apologized,
for being young, and being numb, and acting foolish, and leading you on.
i said goodbye much later than i should’ve,
i put it off, but it only made things worse.

it’s never a good thing, never a fun thing, but it’s right,
when you know you can’t take it another night,
and i’ve waited way too long to say “I’m sorry.”

for being young and stupid, and leading you on.
i’m just too headstrong, thought i could hold on, but i,
i guess i knew, yeah i knew that our love was already gone.

i thought if i sailed on it might work itself out,
but i’ve waited way too long to say “i’m sorry.”

this is my time to spell it out,
i can’t make it up, but i hope that you’re wiser and happier now.

i had to cut the cords and run far away,
and so now here i am eight years to the day,
and all i can say is “i’m sorry.”
