there was a time in my life
when a word like "time" didn't count,
i spent my days and my nights
just tryin' everything out.
i learned to play in a band,
i learned to talk to the girls,
we practiced in a tin can,
it was our own little world.
we traveled near and then far,
we rang up three-digit tabs,
we closed down all the cool bars
and left with less than we'd had.
we had ridiculous days that felt like they'd never end,
we found a million ways to play and hang out with friends.
but then something went wrong,
we graduated, and though elated,
the bills just would not pay for themselves.
i just need to feel that warm buzz one more time.
turn up the tube amps, and let's go!
now here i am in my house,
the house that our money bought.
and though i'm working by day,
i still make music a lot.
i've gone and turned 33,
i've got a child of my own,
my wife is understanding
but thought by now i'd be grown.
'cause we keep chasing that dream,
won't stop till we get it right,
to just play music all day,
and then play music all night.
it's the best thing there is,
to get on stages
and act outrageous,
it's just not enough
to play for ourselves.
i just need to feel that warm hum one more time
for the rest of my life,
one more time,
for the rest of my life.
[solo]
one more time, for the rest of our lives,
don't let end, one more time.
